Good Advice from Bob Olson About Predictions in Psychic Readings

"Really it's about training us to trust our own inner wisdom. That can be the power of having a reading with a psychic..And I know this might sound silly coming from me, but this is what it's all about: get to the point where you don't need to have readings anymore...working with practitioners in this way can just be a stepping stone to us learning to trust our own inner wisdom and not needing a third party, like a psychic, to tell us about our lives anymore. We all have the ability."     -Bob Olson

As with any endeavor, it’s good to do as much research on the psychic reading process as possible before investing time and money into it.  Watching videos like this is a good start.  As one who has both received readings from others and given readings professionally, I find Bob’s advice quite solid.  What reader hasn't repeated many of these points in the past?  In fact, I'm sure most would like to see this video plastered on billboards all over the place to save their breath, lol.  I'd make that happen, but it's not in my budget at the moment, so this blog'll have to do.

"Hello.  You want a choc-late?...I don't
know if we each have a destiny, or if
we're all just floatin' around accidental-
like on a breeze...I think maybe it's both."

Note especially the comment about the problem with being "in denial." (@9min:52sec).  This is a fear-based reaction we all experience occasionally, and it tends to bottleneck our spiritual growth.  Another good point, please note the comment about being open to several "messages" from diverse sources confirming an accurate prediction  (@22min:00sec).  I, personally, have a "3rd time's the charm" policy with myself before I take any prediction seriously, even my own.

Indeed, psychic predictions are "snapshots in time" as he calls them (I call them "trajectory outcomes") which can change depending on many factors.  Or you could liken them to weather reports: say a  weather forecast (which is like a reading) indicates rain next Monday.  All factors the meteorologist (who is like the psychic reader) reads on his forecasting equipment strongly point to that outcome, or else he wouldn't have reported it.

Yet, atmospheric dynamics can cause a weather pattern to change unexpectedly.  If Monday turns out to be sunny, does that mean the original rainy report was faulty?  Or was that report accurate as to what would have been the outcome if most or all factors at the moment the report was made stayed exactly the same?  I tend to believe the latter is true.

Some storms should be weathered, rather
than avoided. Experiencing certain challen-
ges can be the means by which we resolve
karmic issues, and grow our souls.
Weather dynamics are as unpredictable as the free will we and others around us exercise in any given moment.  Our actions, those of others, and other unforeseen factors, could result in alterations to the initial trajectory of a situation, and therefore its outcome.  So it makes no sense to blame readers when outcomes differ from readings, any more than it makes sense to blame meteorologists when the weather differs from their forecasts.

In these unsure times, a lot of people understandably go to psychics and mediums for insight into the energies of their lives.  Any assistance in decision-making is welcomed in times like these.  A psychic prediction is handy because it can reveal strongly probable outcomes, which help you prepare for and navigate the future.  For this reason, even psychics get readings from other psychics!

Ultimately however, as Bob commented, the goal is not to become dependent upon others for intuitive guidance.  No reader will be 100% accurate, anyway.  The goal is to learn to develop and trust one's own intuition.  Approach this whole thing with realistic expectations, a balanced mind, and common sense.  A sense of humor wouldn't hurt, either.  Above all, learn to enjoy all of life's choc-lates...no matter which ones ya' get!

I come from a multi-cultural background, so I often compare different points of view of different people on the same topic.  In this talk, the late Chan Master Sheng Yen, a well-known Buddhist teacher, pretty much arrived at the same conclusion: while divination methods such as fengshui and "fortune telling" (psychic readings) have their usefulness, it is ultimately the mindset --and the resultant actions-- of the individual that affect his "fate" (his life) the most.
