Street Yoga & Prison Meditation

.

We are all prisoners, undergoing a life sentence,
imprisoned by our own minds. We are all seeking parole,
being hostages of our anger, fear, desire.

If the following documentaries bring tears to your eyes, it's because your heart chakra is opening, cracking apart like an egg....and that's a good thing!  Let the tears flow.  In the end, it will strengthen your heart energy, one of the most powerful, and under-used forces in the universe.

We came here to love and be loved.  That's the mission.  But, it's easy for our hearts to grow callouses if we're not vigilant.  Yet, the closer you get to the Inner Child that is the real you, the true "jewel of the lotus," your loving heart, the easier the mission becomes.

The people who implemented and maintain the following groundbreaking programs, and the populations who benefit from those programs, who then, in turn benefit others...they all know this, and they fulfill the mission.

Street Yoga, established in 2002, has been featured on NPR, Slate Magazine, and The Washington Post.  There are affiliate programs in several states, and they are really making a difference in peoples' lives. Watch the video below to hear from clients of the program.  It really tugs at my heart. Click here to visit their website: Street Yoga

Doing Time, Doing Vipassana

The following is an amazing film.  It is about a meditation program implemented in one of India's largest prisons.  What's even more amazing is Kiran Bedi, the dynamic Inspector General of Prisons with a vision for the prison to be truly an institution of rehabilitation, an "ashram."  Meditation was key to her vision.

The prison's meditation program inspired similar programs around the world, including one in the United States mentioned in a previous post on this blog:  Dhamma Brothers, and Doing Time, Doing Vipassana.

If you would like to try a 10-day Vipassana meditation course for yourself, click here: www.dhamma.org for a center near you.  Give the gift of meditation to yourself, with love and gratitude.

Vipassana is a journey of discovery taken with closed eyes.
The goal is not simply to satisfy the traveler's curiosity,
but to get transformed by the journey, and start
living a better life.
