Dear Friends,
As growing nuclear threats follow a devastating tsunami and shattering earthquake, our hearts go out to the brave people of Japan. To help the victims of this tragedy hitting March 11, 2011, the Florin JACL, in partnership with the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC), has established a local relief fund. 100% of the donations will go directly towards citizen relief efforts in the most affected areas of Japan.
For those wishing to contribute to this fund,
please make your check payable to “Florin JACL” and include “Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund” in the memo line, and mail to: Florin JACL, P.O. Box 292634, Sacramento, CA 95829-2634. The Florin JACL will match dollar-for-dollar the first $1,000.00 donated. All donations will be acknowledged. The Florin JACL shall forward all funds to JCCCNC.
The Florin JACL is a chapter of the National JACL (Japanese American Citizens League), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (FEIN 94-6103626) for which charitable donations are tax-deductible. Founded in 1935, the Florin JACL has a 76 year history of promoting multi-cultural understanding and civil rights in the Sacramento region, and has educated thousands of students throughout Northern California about theJapanese American internment experience and its important constitutional issues for all Americans today. The JCCCNC is a highly respected Northern California Japanese American community organization based in San Francisco with which the Florin JACL and its members have worked on many occasions. It serves over 185,000 individuals a year and conducts numerous exchange programs between the U.S. and Japan, including Sendai, Japan in 2010. Founded in 1973, the JCCCNC is also a 501(c)3 non-profit agency. Website: www.jcccnc.org
Responding to the terrible 1995 Kobe Japan Earthquake that killed over 6,000 people and left over 300,000 homeless, the JCCCNC raised over $600,000 towards citizen relief efforts. The funds raised went directly to help organize volunteer efforts to get food and water to victims, citizen search efforts, clothe the homeless, essential supplies for women, children and seniors, and help in rebuilding orphanages.
Since the latest disaster on March 11, 2011, JCCCNC has already wired over $100,000 in funds to Japan to support volunteer efforts to distribute food and supplies to people in the areas directly affected. JCCCNC strives to support citizen relief efforts that are both local and over the longer term.
For more information, please contact Ms. Makiko Yamashita, a survivor of the 1995 Kobe Earthquake, who serves as the Florin JACL Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund Manager at email: makikoyam at gmail dot com
We greatly appreciate your humanitarian support and generosity towards the people of Japan during this challenging time.
Sincerely,
Makiko Yamashita
